Description
Lithium-ion grid storage (Li-ion) has accumulated significant investment in R&D and production as the first choice chemistry in the electronics industry. This report presents a cost-effective analysis of the cost of Li-ion-based energy storage systems for use as well as the customer side of static meter applications. Li-ion batteries have desirable performance features that power the kW- and MW scale systems to operate flexibly to deal with multiple revenue streams from a single system, but field knowledge is limited and monetization of profits remains uncertain. The report aims to inform resources of the immediate potential of Li-ion energy storage and provide direction for focused testing and site demonstration to reduce technical and business uncertainty and empower grid-based energy systems by 2030.
